Players can continue to offer gifts to the Pretty Receptionist to make it difficult for other players to steal her attention away. However, the player cannot play Romance cards that match other Romance cards already in play. This rule only applies to the player who currently has the Pretty Receptionist in front of them. For example, a player could not play another “flowers” card to their Romance pile if the Pretty Receptions is in front of them and there is already a “flowers” card in the existing Romance pile.

Note that other players can block your office romance shenanigans by playing Romance Reaction cards that cancel the Romance card, sending the player’s gift to the discard pile. They can also outdo the other players by offering more Romance cards then anyone else, shifting the Pretty Receptionist’s attention to them.

We were so lucky, and more importantly inspired, to talk to award-winning artist, designer, and creative director Jason Naylor who fearlessly made a drastic change in his career. Originally working in the Creative Department of MAC Cosmetics, six years later, Jason set out to start spreading his own message into the world through both digital and traditional media. With work ranging from typography and illustration, to products and large scale murals, the immediately recognizable commonality in all of his work is his electric color palette and his positivity.

“I have always been an artist, drawing, coloring, painting even as a kid. My Mom is an artist and very creative and I always loved art classes in school. I went to college for art and design and started my career as a graphic designer, but after a few years of sitting at a computer, I was dying to get out and create from a more free place. I quit my job and began freelancing. Meanwhile, I had discovered how much I loved seeing my work at large scale from designing graphics for events, and I started looking for mural work. I was fortunate to land a gig painting a 50 ft mural for Microsoft during SXSW and since then have seized every mural opportunity I could get my hands on, and at a certain point, I landed an outdoor brick wall and had to paint it with spray paint. Since then I’ve focused on doing as much on the street (outdoor) as possible.”

“Putting your work out there is a pretty common thing for artists to do, and each person has a different way of doing it and also their own ideal place to put it out there, but whether its posting it on IG or painting it on the street, sharing art is essentially sharing yourself. So yeah, its quite vulnerable to do it, but to be honest, I find it to be really empowering to make myself vulnerable to the public. I love leaving messages on the street for people to see and read, and knowing that my messages definitely will resonate with at least SOMEONE, is powerful. And every artist loves the response of the public, (whether they admit it or not), and I really love knowing my work is appreciated. It’s so motivating for me and drives me to make more.”

You make yourself vulnerable, putting yourself out there, and get a response, a like, a repost, a tagged photo, a thank you, a “I love your work”… and these things all give validation. Which you can then turn into confidence and pour that into your next piece. It’s a cycle. As for putting optimism and confidence into my own work, for me its a formula of message and color. I rely on bright colors to reinforce messages and themes of love, kindness, and positivity and I like to make my designs loud and splashy to grab attention. I want to make sure people see my message and when they do, I want them to have a moment of joy.”

“My biggest risk was quitting my day job to pursue art full time. It was scary AF… but somehow it worked and I’ve been doing this about 10 years now. In the beginning everything felt like it was resting on the shoulders of the thing before it… like the bottom could drop out at any moment. But now I have a rhythm that works and I love it. It was definitely worth the risk.”

What’s next? “I am working on a book that will come out at the end of 2020, which is new for me because its not just art, but a lot of writing as well. It’s a totally new creative outlet for me and it’s been a challenge, but I am excited for the final product and to get it out there for the world :)”

Local libraries are offering a break starting next Wednesday to people who owe fines for overdue materials – or who are about to incur them. Here’s the announcement:

On May 4, the King County Library System will clear late fines for all patrons with a new initiative called A Fresh Start for All. This one-time waiver gives patrons a fresh start on their account and enables access to all KCLS materials. A Fresh Start for All was approved by the KCLS Board of Trustees on April 27, 2022. The coronavirus pandemic placed many hardships on King County communities. To help patrons, KCLS temporarily stopped assessing late fines in March 2020. The System also lifted electronic access on blocked accounts during this time so patrons could still download digital materials. KCLS will return to pre-pandemic circulation practices on September 15, and will start assessing late fines again at that time. After their accounts have been cleared on May 4, patrons will have until September 15 to return items before late fines resume. KCLS is also introducing a new automatic renewal service on September 15. KCLS will automatically renew holds for patrons if their items are eligible for renewal. This will allow patrons to keep their materials longer without accruing late fines. Patrons may opt out of this service if they choose to. Late fines add up when a patron does not return library materials by the due date. Late fines over $25 lead to a blocked account. A blocked account limits access to library services, books and other materials. Lost fees are different from late fines. If library materials are more than 30 days overdue, they are considered lost. A Fresh Start for All will not apply to these fees; under state law, KCLS cannot waive lost fees. On May 4, the System will begin processing lost fees again. KCLS will mail billing notices to accounts with over $25 in fees. Patrons will have until September 15 to return items or pay fees before accounts are blocked.

How To Use Our Lending Library

Starting Sunday, February 27, the King County Library System (KCLS) will increase hours of operation by 18% System-wide. Hours of operation will vary by location. Find updated hours on library location pages with KCLS’ location finder map. Nearly all libraries will add a day of service to their schedules, including Sundays and Mondays. This will ensure that patrons have access to a community library seven days a week in each region. In addition, all KCLS libraries will be open later into the evenings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and earlier on other days of the week to serve as many King County residents as possible. “KCLS is excited to expand in-building services and hours again as we work to get back to pre-pandemic levels, ” stated KCLS Executive Director Lisa Rosenblum. “We will continue to address our patrons’ evolving needs and increase in-building access when and where it is needed most.” Following state and public health mandates and guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic, KCLS has been operating on modified hours. KCLS has continued to serve King County communities in a variety of ways throughout the pandemic. The System acted swiftly to add new contactless services such as external library lockers, Curbside to Go pickup and virtual programming in the early stages of the pandemic, while steadily expanding in-building services. All 50 libraries opened to the public again in July 2021.

For the White Center Library, KCLS says, this means two added days a week – it will be open Sundays through Fridays (hours TBA). For the Boulevard Park Library, one day will be added – it’ll be open Tuesdays through Saturdays.

In this hour-long session, KCLL librarians and attorney Evelyn Emanuel will guide you through a number of helpful resources. This session is especially geared for those looking to start estate planning for the first time.

Beginning on June 30, the King County Library System (KCLS) will advance to Phase 4 in its multiphase reopening plan, following Governor Jay Inslee’s announcement to reopen Washington state. KCLS will reopen all remaining library buildings by July 13. Contactless Curbside to Go services will be phased out as KCLS increases in-building access. KCLS’ reopening plan adheres to Gov. Inslee’s Healthy Washington—Roadmap to Recovery and Safe Start guidelines. State officials are currently working on updating industry-specific guidance for businesses and organizations to reflect the upcoming changes. KCLS’ in-building services will be modified at first and expand over time. KCLS will continue to assess and implement health and safety protocols as needed. “We look forward to welcoming patrons back into all of our library buildings, ” stated KCLS Executive Director Lisa Rosenblum. “We know this is the moment many of you have been waiting for, and we are happy it is nearly here.” KCLS’ libraries will open on a gradual schedule. Service changes and hours of operation will vary by location during the Phase 4 transition. Library hours will be posted on the library location page as the rollout progresses. Residents may learn more about what to expect during their visit at kcls.org/visit as KCLS moves closer to reopening. Aside from a few exceptions, patrons may pick up materials on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 1:00 to 7:30 pm and Thursday through Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.
